Numerical and Experimental Study of a Large-Scale Natural Circulation Helium Loop

This paper deals with the one-dimensional unsteady fluid flow model of a natural circulation loop. The governing equations are solved according to both Euler and Lagrange approaches on two parallel computational grids. linearization semi-implicit discretization scheme used enhance algorithm’s effectiveness. results simulations were verified by using experimental data obtained an rig that was scale emergency system for removal residual heat after reactor shutdown. parameters compared helium temperature at locations heater outlet pressure. simulation generally did not differ from more than 10%. best agreement scenarios in which pressure highest combination slow changes input (less 4%). Conversely, differed most scenario extremely fast device cooling (20%).
